Violence grows like a cancer in a small mountain community. A brutal home invasion leads four individuals on a crash course that turns fatal. Keith seeks revenge; Caitlin seeks refuge; Chief Bouchard seeks answers, and Danny seeks forgiveness. All of them clash in a dance of death deep in Appalachia. A novel in the Southern Gothic tradition of Flannery O’Connor, Old Boone Blood is a haunting look at the brutality that plagues mankind.

This is a story about Caitlin, a woman with two children who is in the process of going through a divorce and her former love, Keith, who works for a local college deep in the Appalachian Mountains. Caitlin travels from her New Jersey home to visit Keith, and they happily discover that the old attraction that they had so long ago is still there. However, their romantic retreat is soon irrevocably shattered as they become the victims of a horrific crime perpetrated by some methamphetamine-crazed local boys. Afraid to report the crime and risk losing custody of her daughters, Caitlin pleads with Keith to remain silent. She returns to her home, trying to maintain a semblance of sanity, as Keith is left to cope with his own demons, tortured that he was unable to do anything to prevent this crime against his lover and himself. The Chief of Police, Kym Bouchard, has his own demons to contend with, as well. He knows that something terrible must have happened - both Caitlin and Keith have obviously been on the wrong end of a fight - and he is frustrated when he gets no cooperation from Keith and learns that Caitlin, who has left the area, has given him a false name and address. He sees his town becoming wracked with violence and drugs, and feels totally inadequate as a cop and even as a husband. But he is determined to find out what happened - too many things in Keith's story and behavior just aren't adding up for him. Meanwhile, we get a sense of the empty lives of the four drug addicts who have little concern for anything other than getting their next high - and certainly no remorse for the horrendous violence that they inflicted on their victims.
This was a good story - a good plot, good character development, and, unfortunately, all-too believable. We not only are able to connect with the good guys, but even feel some empathy for one of the addicts, a young man whose life Mr. Bouchard had saved years ago - and the only one in the group of addicts with an inkling of having a conscience. However, it soon becomes apparent that this crime, though never reported, can not go unpunished. It's a dark story and there are no fairy-tale, happily-ever-after endings.
I would have given this 5-stars, and in some ways, it deserved it, except for the numerous typos, misspellings and grammatical mistakes, especially in the second half of the book. It was distracting! This author obviously is a good writer, but it looks as if he failed to take the time to read his finished copy (or have someone else read it), and there were too many errors to ignore - which was unfortunate, as it really could have been an exceptionally good book. Three different times, the word "nauseous" was spelled "nauseas," and "form" was used when it should have been "from." Other examples were using "your" instead of "you're" as well as some verbs written in the wrong tense ("looking like a child who had drown in a cold river") or incorrectly combined ("The girl had to comeback...") Lots of errors like these kept me from getting truly engaged in the story; instead, I found myself cringing in anticipation of the next mistake. So, my constructive criticism for the author is "get an editor!"
That said, this is an exceptionally good first book by a previously unpublished author. The story deserves 5-stars. The spelling and grammatical errors detract enough from the story to drop it to a 4-star rating.

Great book, kept me interested in the book the whole time! couldnt keep my nose out of it. I will definitely buy another book from this author again.
I am a very picky reader - I don't take chances on unknown authors very often - well I am so glad I did this time. Old Boone Blood had me from page one - loved it. I look forward to many more books from author Marc E. Fitch.
Very intricate characters with excellent story weaving. You could actually feel the good and bad of the characters, easy to feel empathy for the victims and hate for the perpetrators! Easy fast read, very refreshingly new, not your usual crime story! Great writing.
This was such a tragic novel. The story of a lonely in love with a woman who has never seen him "that way". A woman starving for love but doesn't realize the real thing until it is too late. Three junkies and a dealer making what could have been a magical weekend into a weekend to forget.
It was a good novel. But isn't on my to-read-again list.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from, who I feel, is an up and coming author. Mr Fitch has developed a plot which is quickly paced. The characters are well developed and the story line compels you to keep reading. His writing style is easy to read and incorporates excellent descriptive language. I finished this book in no time. I would love to read more books by Mr. Fitch.I went to his website and found out that he has another book will be coming out in November.
